Gwen Lasserre is a most gifted chocolatier, a young man who got turned on to the great art by a local chocolate maker back in his native France. Those early lessons have stood M Lasserre in fine stead, and we rate these as being amongst the best chocolates available in Ireland.

The Gloss Magazine February 2008 "Gwen's Chocolates of Schull produce some of the most delicious treats in the country, thanks to handsome French chocolatier Gwendall Lasserre, and this Valentine's Day they've collaborated with local jewellery designers Enibas to create a unique gift - they're producing 100 chocolate hearts, two of which, Willy Wonka style, will contain a jewel." Each chocolate heart was filled with a selection of luxury chocolates. Two contained a beautiful, delicate pendant handcrafted in 9 carat gold. The hearts carried the word 'Love' in ancient Celtic text. Valentine Hearts cost €25 each and were also available by mail order.

Stepping inside the door of Gwen’s Chocolates in Schull is to enter a small corner of heaven…..When he hands you a sample of the house praline to try, your knees buckle and you wonder whether he would consider taking on an assistant. One who would work for free……What makes it especially different is that everything, including every single filling, is made right there in Schull by Gwendall himself.
